Our Story

Thread after thread, from Lyon

StudioSoie was born in 2018 from a line of Lyon silk makers and a small garment workshop in Shanghai. Since then, we have woven the same idea: exceptional mulberry silk, sold direct, with no middleman.

Who we are

Lyon heritage, Shanghai craftsmanship

Lyon, France — Shanghai, China

Founded by Nori, heir to a lineage of Lyon silk makers, StudioSoie carries on a tradition at the heart of one of the historic capitals of silk. Every collection is designed in Lyon, with the exacting precision and timeless elegance for which the city is renowned.

For the making, we have chosen to remain loyal to a small workshop in Shanghai, with which we work exclusively: seamstresses and tailors who know mulberry silk thread by thread. This alliance between Lyon design and Shanghai craftsmanship gives us pieces that are understated, precise and made to last.

At the heart of it all, grade 6A mulberry silk: the longest, most regular of fibres, woven from 16 to 30 momme depending on its use.

  • 2018 year founded, in Lyon
  • 25 000+ customers in 25 countries
  • 6A the grade of our mulberry silk
  • 5 weights: 16, 19, 22, 25 and 30 momme

The masks

2020: a fashion accessory, and a true ally

In spring 2020, we put our craftsmanship at the service of those caring for others: silk masks designed to the AFNOR specification, and silk under-masks to soothe skin marked by long days of wear.

Our idea was simple: to create a piece as beautiful as it is useful, one you genuinely want to wear, and that fully plays its part as a barrier.

What the science says

Why silk acts as a barrier

During the pandemic, several laboratories compared everyday fabrics. Silk stood out on some very specific points.

It repels droplets

Silk is naturally hydrophobic: where cotton soaks up moisture like a sponge, silk repels it and dries very quickly.

Parlin et al., PLOS ONE, 2020

Every layer counts

The more layers of silk, the better the filtration. Paired with a tightly woven cotton, it strengthens the barrier even further.

Konda et al., ACS Nano, 2020

Naturally antibacterial

The silkworm incorporates copper from mulberry leaves into its fibre, and copper is known to neutralise bacteria and viruses on contact.

University of Cincinnati, 2020

Breathable and gentle on skin

Fine and breathable, it limits moisture and friction: real relief for skin marked by hours of wear.

In the press

They've talked about us

Magazines, great houses and television shows that have crossed our path, and to whom we are truly grateful.

Silk is a luxury, and one that is thousands of years old. We work with it with the respect it deserves, from the workshop all the way to your home.

Our principles

What guides every piece we make

Simple choices, upheld since our very beginnings, that make all the difference once the piece is in your hands.

Direct from the workshop

Our pieces travel from our partner workshop straight to your door. With no middlemen, every batch stays traceable and every price stays fair.

Just the right packaging

Nothing superfluous, no ink: a recycled box, understated and sturdy, that protects your silk without overdoing it.

Plastic, only where it protects

We have cut it down to the bare minimum. It remains only where it protects the silk in transit: for cleanliness, against moisture, and for peace of mind for people with allergies.

A fair price

A price set as close to the market as possible, because we sell direct, with no middleman's margin to fund.

OEKO-TEX certified

Our products are OEKO-TEX certified: tested for harmful substances, so the fabric is safe against your skin, day and night.

Made to last

Fabrics and finishes designed to stand the test of time, wash after wash. With proper care, mulberry silk even grows softer over the years.

From the maker to your bedroom, no detours
Our commitment

From the maker to your bedroom, no detours

No resellers: our pieces travel from our partner workshop straight to your door, with no middlemen. That is what allows us to guarantee the traceability of every batch, fair prices and a customer service team that knows every product.

We favour environmentally friendly methods and ethical working conditions at every stage of production. A silk that lasts for years is already the most responsible silk of all.
